King's Road, London
London, UK
A contemporary landscape concept in keeping with the history of King’s Road and offering a high-quality new destination for this iconic London street. The project recently took the Gold Award in the Future-Mixed Use category at the World Architecture News awards and has been shortlisted for a New London Architecture award.
The landscaping strategy is integral to the project design (led by Benoy) and was considered from the outset of the design development process, ensuring a powerful connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Sculptural elements are introduced to provide opportunities for sheltered and informal relaxed seating or as an armature for temporary events, decorations and lighting.
The bespoke furniture takes inspiration from important points in the site's history on the King's Road: bold pop-art graphics from the 1960’s and botanical illustrations and seed forms.
Key design principles:
Contemporary design that takes inspiration from the history of the site
Embedded with elements that promote wellbeing and create a strong connection with nature for tenants
Strong fit with the neighbourhood and the King’s Road;
Ecologically sound and biodiverse design that enhances nature locally
Championing functionality and flexibility to encourage social activity and promote ease of access for visitors, tenants and residents alike
